10 Conditions That Can Be Treated with regenerative Therapy
What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy, also called proliferation therapy is a
non-surgical and injection-based treatment used in chronic musculoskeletal
conditions. It is a procedure where a natural irritant is injected into the
soft tissue of an injured joint to kick start the body’s healing response, you
will feel worse before you feel better but the aim is to strengthen the
ligaments in the joint resulting in better stability and pain relief.
Prolotherapy usually requires several shots at the site of
the injury or weakened area to be effective. An individual can expect anywhere
from 4 to 15 shots per session, and for several sessions to occur over the
course of 3 to 6 months.
What Is PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), or platelet concentrates, have
been studied extensively since the 1990s. Plasma concentrates are a way to help
the body finish the healing process and strengthen the weakened tissue. The use
of PRP, a portion of the patient’s own blood having a platelet concentration
above baseline, to promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and
joints, can be applied to various musculoskeletal problems.
What Is Stem Cell Therapy?
Stem cell therapy focuses on delivering stem cells to parts
of the body that are in need. Adult stem cells (also known as Somatic stem
cells) are undifferentiated cells found throughout your body. These stem cells
can be harvested from a patient’s own body and is processed into a stem cell
concentrate and injected at the focal point of treatment in the patient’s body.
Once the stem cell concentrate has entered the treatment site, the regeneration
process begins.
Stem cell therapy is safe as we are using what your body
naturally produces and there is no risk of rejection and very minimal overall
procedural risk. Stem cell therapy may now be an appropriate medical
alternative to conventional surgery and or medications in certain conditions.
The choice of treatment is at the discretion of the
Consultant and is based on your unique case. In certain cases it may be a
combination of more than one treatment protocol. For some patients however, the
complete protocol is a series of injections in several treatment sessions. The
final outcome of the treatment and extent of improvement varies from one
patient to another depending on type and severity of the disease, age, etc
